About Sharon Shannon

Sharon Shannon

My love for decorative painting began back in 1984, when I took my first beginning oil class in a country gift shop owned by Bess Daniel in Schenectady, N.Y. Bess, who is a beautiful decorative artist, was my teacher and also my pastor's wife. She has always been a great inspiration to me. I painted in oils for some time but began to do craft shows and went from oils to acrylics. I would get as many decorative painting books as I could and would spend hours practicing techniques. I joined the Society of Decorative Painters, and would wait in anticipation for the latest book to come in the mail.

After moving to Newport, N.C. in 1990, I began to teach painting classes at a local shop. In 1998, I began teaching classes in my home. My dear husband converted our sun porch into a painting studio for me, where I still continue to teach classes. Through teaching classes, many of my students joined the Society of Decorative Painters and wanted a local chapter in our area. I contacted other artists in the area that I knew belonged to SDP and soon our chapter Crystal Coast Decorative Painters was born. I have served as President and in other positions on the board through the years.

I began to design pattern packets and published my first book A Tender Touch, in 2003. I was blessed to be selected as one of the winners in the Delta (2005) Painting challenge in the spirituality-inspiration category. In 2007 I published my second book -Timeless Treasures. Having taught numerous seminars and workshops, I am now looking forward to branching out into doing video classes.

I have been blessed with a wonderful husband, who has always been there by my side giving me encouragement and support. We have a daughter, and two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. They are the joy of our life! I also would like to thank the Lord for all the accomplishments and blessings He has given me, for without Him I could do nothing.
